Summary of presentation

We have been conscious of the situation that “it is a rare occurrence that an organizational development specialist in the Whole System Approach is invited to a table to discuss strategy at a leading company in Japan” (Cited from an article by Prof. Toshihiro Kanai written in November, 2012).
On the front line of business, specialists working outside of their narrow focus to observe the “here and now” of organizations have been trying to create a future for people, organizations, and businesses. With their efforts, they have discovered underlying issues in strategy and are increasingly being invited to work in practical settings.
In the field of assistance, we have been working on “Management by Learning” through Mindful Dialogue (MBL). MBL departs from the well-known structure of supervision from the top to the bottom of an organization, and efficiently operates by selecting the somewhat radical methodology of team learning, focusing on creativity and direct dialogue as a pillar of the management cycle.
In an ever-changing global market, it is difficult to foresee the future by applying old methodologies. By utilizing the MBL methodology, we are able to gain insight into the reality of “here and now” that an organization is facing, and have foresight into choices for the new reality. The classical proposition of choice between strategy, and organization is meaningless here, and management development as an integral and emergent organization skill is required.
MBL methodologies and practices are mainly introduced in this session.
